2016 Conference Information & Registration
Scriptural Reasoning with the Presidents
The Scriptural Reasoning Network is gathering in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday, November 18, 2016, the day before the American Academy of Religion conference. We will be meeting in the Alamo Ballroom, Salon A, at the Marriott Riverwalk from 9am to 4:30pm. The title for this year's gathering is "Scriptural Reasoning with the Presidents."
In the morning, we will read sections from three presidential speeches alongside the scriptural passages to which they refer: Abraham Lincoln's “House Divided” speech (June 16, 1858) alongside Mark 3; Ronald Reagan's “Farewell Address to the Nation” (January 11, 1989) alongside Matthew 5; and Barack Obama's “Remarks by the President at National Prayer Breakfast” (February 4, 2016) alongside 2 Timothy 1.
In the afternoon, after a lunch break, we will have a more traditional Scriptural Reasoning session: we'll read and discuss scriptural passages from the Tanakh, New Testament, and Qur'an on citizenship .
Jacob Goodson (Southwestern College) will be hosting the morning and afternoon sessions. You're welcome to join us for all or only part of the day. If you're new to Scriptural Reasoning, this gathering will be a great way to get familiar with the practice. If you're a student or newcomer, just fill out the form below and hit "register."
